Mike Seal is a two-time Grammy-nominated guitarist whose playing lives at the crossroads of jazz, blues, rock and Americana. Known for a distinctive fingerstyle approach, his signature touch has earned him deep admiration among peers and listeners alike, establishing him as an articulate and harmonically rich improviser with a unique voice.
His career spans an impressively wide musical landscape, from the high-octane explorations of the Jeff Sipe Trio and the Jeff Coffin Mu'tet, to extensive work on the Americana and roots circuit playing with luminaries like Jerry Douglas, John Hiatt, Sierra Hull, Viktor Krauss and Larkin Poe. After joining Douglas’s band in 2016, Seal contributed to the Grammy-nominated What If (2017) and later to Leftover Feelings (2021), Douglas’s collaboration with John Hiatt, which received a Grammy nomination for Best Americana Album.
Seal now channels that wealth of experience and musical curiosity into his highly anticipated 2026 debut record, Danger Ranger. Produced and engineered by Tyler Bryant and recorded in Nashville, the album captures Seal’s expansive stylistic range across nine original instrumentals—shifting from the soaring jazz-fusion of “Interstellar” to the chicken-pickin’ barn burner “Tractor Dogs” which features blistering pedal steel work by Travis Toy of Rascal Flatts.
The project also includes a heartfelt vocal cameo from Larkin Poe on “Angel Band,” a tribute to Seal’s grandfather, a self-taught folk and gospel guitarist rooted in the Doc Watson tradition. Backing the album is a stellar roster of musicians, including Keith Carlock, Tyler Bryant, Megan Lovell, Travis Toy, and Toby Lee Marshall. Danger Ranger stands as a culmination of Seal’s musical journey so far and an exciting launch point for new horizons.
“Mike Seal is a rare type of musician, a one of a kind. His notes are treated with inflection and love for the universal language. Not only that, he’s a consummate professional and caring, considerate human being. He keeps me on my toes musically.” Jeff Sipe, Abstract Logix
"I’m impressed with his cross-genre versatility, burning chops, and unique technique. My fandom has all culminated with the Jerry Douglas Band’s album, “What If.” The album is a genre-bending mishmash with a bluegrass soul and power-jazz sensibilities. Mike simply burns on every track. I can’t stop listening to it.” - Jackson Evans, Jazz Guitar Today
“Mike Seal is a “Young Lion” of the guitar world. He sets people back in their seats with his burning lines, stunning ideas and a remarkable tone... You might hear a little John Scofield, Jimi Hendrix, Derek Trucks, Tony Rice, Stevie Ray Vaughn, or Lionel Loueke, but you’re always hearing Mike Seal...” - E. "Doc" Smith, Beyond Chron
